For Love and Tie Dye

I love tie dye. I'm not even sure why -- tie dye parties had largely fallen out of favor when I was young, though several birthday parties featured it. In fourth grade our art teacher decided we should tie dye, so we were all instructed to bring in t-shirts from home. After we finished our "art", I used some of the left over dye to dye my shoes. They turned out very nicely, I thought. With all my love of tie dye, I thought I would make a tie dye egg.

It looks like the eye of Sauron's cousin, you say? Well, if you squint your eyes and pretend... nope.
Following this failure, I felt like doing some typography art. I've seen a lot of this stuff around lately -- the same word or phrases repeated in different forms, sizes, colors, and orientations. I picked love, because... well, love, I guess. And tie dye.

I quickly got bored of that, though.

It was delicious!

Happy veterans day!

Happy veterans day! If you know someone who is currently serving in the military, has served in the past, or is a family member for current and former military, remember to thank them!

Bento Twinzie Lunch

My youngest sibling is lumping it through her first semester of college life. I made her some bento lunches for the week, to cheer her up and also because she has allergies that are hard to avoid in college cafeteria food. I made myself one, as well.

It's pretty plain looking, of course. Hers were cuter. I enjoy the idea of bento but I don't spend as much time and effort on them as some people do. You should definitely go look at cute bento pictures, though, because they can be soooo adorable! This is four-cheese tortellini (three colors... it bothers me that there are three colors but four cheeses) in the top to be mixed with the vegetables and linguini in a lemon cream sauce. Mmm!

I don't put a lot of time into putting together my lunches. I have to make sure my husband has a nutritious lunch and snack for work, and I don't usually eat much anyway, so that's why my lunch is usually a plain egg! Haha. This is one of my favorite bento boxes. I love the little round shape, and the lace detail is super cute. And, of course, the cats!!!

It was delicious!

Kittens!!!!!!

I am not eating kittens. What is wrong with you?

My mother adopted these two kittens from the rescue shelter. They are soooo adorable!!!! I just want to go over to her house and play with them allllll day!

The eyes...

This is the internet. Everyone loves kittens.

Simple floral

It is getting cooler outside. I love it when it's finally habitable outdoors again. (Which, here, is only about 5 months of the year, October - February.) It settles my spirit to be able to spend time outside.
Since I'm feeling so calm and peaceful, my lunch decoration was simple today.

It makes me feel cheery, but still calm. I cherish calm.

Calmly delicious.

What is that thing??

I have no idea what I was thinking when I started this. I just started doodling. Sometimes you start off with a plan and it goes awry. Sometimes you start off with a plan and it turns out wonderfully. This was not either of those times.

Attack of the ugly egg! I am sometimes shocked at how very very bad things can get in a doodle, haha.

Despite it's appearance, it was still delicious!

Swirly-gig

I have been doodling on a box I'm sending to my collegiate sibling. A "care package" so to speak. And it gave me an idea for this egg.

But it came out a lot... busier than I thought it would. I think it would have looked better with larger swirlys, and more white space left.

But it was still delicious!

We are trying to buy a house. It's been quite stressful.

That's my excuse for this anyway.

It was delicious, even though I'm stressed.

Feathers. Of DOOM!

When I was a child my aunt had peacocks. She saved a lot of the tail feathers and kept them in a large vase/urn thing. I don't know why, but they always seems sinister to me.

Sure, they're lovely and shiny. But that black center is like an eye. Watching. Waiting.

Waiting to be delicious.

Rainbow kick, now with flowers

Still on my rainbow colors kick! This time I decided to draw flowers.

I think most five year olds have better flowers.

But it was still delicious!

Rainbow kick

I've been on a rainbow kick lately. It's hard to have so many colors of marker and stick to only two or three!

This is a simple progression of the colors, but I like how cheery it turn out. The wobbly lines make it more whimsical I think.

Whimsically delicious!

Mardi Gras

Most of us have heard the tale of the contest between the sun and the wind to get a man to take off his coat. I was turning that over in my mind today while decorating this egg.

But it turned out more mardi gras colors than anything.

It was still delicious!

Patterned ribbons

I really had no idea for today. I just wanted to play with pattern and depth. I definitely played with pattern.

But not so much on the depth side. It's hard to create shading with markers.

But it was deeply delicious. (I know, I'm the only one that enjoys puns. Don't I get a pity laugh?)

Cracked serenity

This egg cracked when  was putting it in to boil. It's hard to draw on cracks, so I only drew a small scene on this third. It has been a stressful week, so I tried to draw a serene scene.

Of course, the ocean at sunset isn't really "serenity" to me. But it is colorful.

Colorfully delicious!

Love Boundaries

Today I was idly thinking of a story where a flower loves the moon.

Of course, I found the outcome slightly disturbing. A flower with rocket technology that has yet to realize that the moon is not also a flower? Talk about disappointment.

Ah, but delicious moon cheese.

Hello Kitty Cheese Stick Apology

I'm sorry I haven't updated for a whole seven days. Things became quite busy! So today's decorated lunch is Hello Kitty apologizing, because Hello Kitty makes everyone happy, even if they've been abandoned for a week.

Forgetful

Do you remember that one strange kid in school that always seemed to have forgotten his or her coat, lunch, permission slip, homework, etc? That was me. And guess what I forgot today?

Honestly, most people mastered the idea of a morning routine in elementary school. But not me! I still find myself walking out of my house with no shoes, or forgetting my coat, or wandering aimlessly around my house because I can't figure out the idea of getting dressed and leaving. It reminds me of the express "I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached", or something to that effect. That's me. Headless save for my neck.

Almond milk

I'm sorry I didn't have a post for you folk on Friday. I was quite busy and feeling the stress more than usual, and I didn't have time to decorate or even eat my lunch.
But now it's Monday, and it's a good Monday, too, because I have milk for my tea. Tea, especially cinnamon and cardamon tea, without milk is truly a sad thing. I particularly love almond milk, too, although I like soy as well. (I don't drink cow milk, in case the aforementioned wasn't enough of a clue.) Over the weekend I got a fresh carton of almond milk for the office, so I'm having a fantastic Monday tea-time!
You can make your own almond milk, by the way, but the carton is easier for me at the office than to keep a blender and almonds around.

Here's a cheese-stick drawing, too:

I haven't even had time to get more eggs for my lunch! Eeep! After I ate this I thought I should have written something in that middle space, like "Happy Monday!" But I didn't. So Happy Monday!

But cheese is also delicious.

Cupcakes

Today I have a bunch of cupcakes to make. Since it's spring, with Easter coming, I am making a lot of different flowers out of airhead candies, eggs, baskets with jelly beans in them... In short, my lunch was mostly neglected. I did draw a happy little face on him though.

Hopefully I'll have time to take a photo of the cupcakes before the kids eat them!

(I did!)

Autism Awareness or Puzzles

I've been seeing a lot of autism awareness related posts. I don't much go in for dividing months up into various causes, so I'm not sure when "autism awareness month" is or anything, but like many good causes it deserves some recognition. And that's why we have social media, I guess. Either way, the puzzle emblems made me wonder how difficult a puzzle egg would be?

Very difficult, it turns out. I think if I had started with a white egg it might have been easier. But no, probably not.

Regardless of cause or artistic merit way, it was delicious!

Silent Spring?

Today is wet and rainy. It made me think of the birdsong you hear on nice days, so I decided to draw some birds and songs:

If you're curious, the music notes are lines from "you are my sunshine", because when you realize the irony of drawing birds on an egg you're about to eat, it's hard to reign yourself in.

It did make me think of that book, Silent Spring, which I have heard of but never read. It set off the "ecofriendly" art movement. I don't take a stance, really, either way. I try to tread lightly wherever I go. But it did inspire this post title.

It was ironically delicious!

Lines and tattoos

I had a speckled brown egg today, and I thought I'd draw something kind of tribal-tattoo like on it, but then I started drawing and decided that I am utterly hopeless without an eraser. Tribal tattoos are hard! So I just did this instead. This weird little pattern is something I find myself doodling a lot. It has a calming effect, with all the swirls. Or that's what I tell myself.

It was calmly delicious!

Green Circles

I had an idea for this, but it was one of those ideas that was only really half-formed.

All I can really say is, I'm sorry? Are your eyes ok?

But it was still tasty!

Doodles

I didn't really have an idea for today. Considering how my "idea" turned out yesterday, my brain was probably just trying to recover. So I doodled.

I thought it looked pretty nice. Well, one side of it, anyway, haha. I do love random patterns. I always thought it would be interesting to be one of those people who design patterns for fabrics. Especially when I go into a restaurant or somewhere with very interesting upholstery.

But, back to lunch, which was delicious.
