Outlining

I tried to create a marker-drawn version of the Easter egg I posted a few days ago. The Easter egg has paint, beads, crystals, and gold-leaf paint on it, to mimic a Fabrige egg. But I really liked that design, so I tried to draw it, too. It reminds me a bit of the Holy Hand Grenade from Monty Python.

After I had put all the colors in I thought it looked a lot like a grape fruit... So I added those black outlines to try and give it definition. It didn't really work, did it? But it doesn't look like a grapefruit now either, so it's a partial success! And outlines or not...

It was delicious.

Woodgrain

Today's egg was one of the dark brown ones, which are hard to make colorful since they're so dark. I decided to make it a wooden egg. I find it oddly hilarious.

Delicious!

I get carried away

Today's egg was this really lovely cream color. I thought it was a charming, gentle shade. I had a hard time figuring out what to draw on it because I didn't want to cover up all that nice cream.

So I doodled a bit, going for a Scandinavian tapestry look but with a light background, if that makes any sense. (No, no it doesn't, just ignore that bit.) It looked ok. I should have probably stopped there. But sometimes I get carried away. Far away.

Into the world of Lisa Frank, apparently:

I think if I had pastel markers it wouldn't have been so... so... that. But in the end, it was still delicious.

De Stijl/Mondrian

I've always had a strange fascination with de stijl. I'm not sure why, I guess I find the neoplastic-approach a little morbid. Limiting art to only straight and vertical lines? Only the primary colors and primary values? Yet I still find it oddly fascinating.

And oddly delicious.

Green eggs

I always think the green or blue eggs are prettier than the white or brown eggs. I don't know, I just prefer them!

I never know why the occasional egg has a darker ring on it. I imagine it's because the shell is thicker there. A lot of eggs have thick and thin spots in their shells, you just don't notice because they're white.

My design was monochromatic again. I had an idea in mind, but it didn't execute well.
But it was still delicious!

Today's egg was a very dark brown. Like milk chocolate dark. It comes from a breed of chicken that I can't spell, but they are known for their lovely chocolate colored eggs. Unfortunately, it limited my ability to decorate it, since hardly anything would even show up. I went with something simple.

See? It's nearly invisible.  But it was still delicious.

Easter egg decorating

Easter is a big holiday for my family. Well, not Easter itself, but the weeks before Easter. Because when we decorate eggs, we really, really decorate eggs.

These eggs are hollowed, by the way. We save the prettiest ones each year. We have quite the collection now.

Tea

Tea. I love a nice warm cup of tea in the morning. I don't drink coffee in the morning as much as I used to, because it upsets my stomach sometimes. But I love tea.

My friend Shane made this mug for me. It's hard to see scale in the photo, but this is a BIG cup. It holds nearly 16 ounces. That's a lot of tea! And I love it!

Stained glass with highlighters?

I thought I'd add some color, but all I had sitting around were some highlighters. So this is a very neon design! I wanted it to look like stained glass. So before I started applying neon highlighters, I drew some window panes.

They totally came out looking like bow ties, or something. And my lines aren't very straight. It's been a long day.

Then I added the color. I apparently forgot how bright highlighters are. It wasn't as soft-looking as I hoped.

In fact, it's rather hideous.

But it was still delicious!

Fish scales or fans?

If you hold it this way, it looks like fans, a bit.
But if you hold it this way, it looks like scales?

I liked the speckled egg shell, so I didn't want to cover it up, which is why I kept this design simple. But it feels a little too simple, don't you agree? I feel I need to add something...

If you're curious about the different colors of eggshell: these eggs are from my mother's pet chickens. She has many different kinds, and each breed of chicken has an "egg color". The reason you often see only white eggs in the grocery is because those eggs come from Leghorn hens. Leghorn hens are very efficient egg layers, not needing a lot of food because they are a naturally skinny chicken (I'm so jealous) but laying nice, large eggs. Which also happen to be white. That makes them ideal for egg producers.

But it was still delicious.

Floral egg

I'm really into hard boiled eggs lately. I sat down to eat my lunch only to realize that it wasn't quite lunch time. I often find myself eating when I am bored, so I decided that since I wasn't that hungry yet, I would amuse myself.

I sent this photo of my decorated egg to my husband. He said it was pretty.

Pretty delicious!
